Medium Drew – The Teacher

Just as I never expected or considered becoming a psychic medium until that fateful night of my first ever meditation (read Part 1 of this series, Medium Drew – The Beginning, to learn all about it), I never expected or considered becoming a teacher in the beginning either. After I returned from studying psychic mediumship abroad, I began to give readings from my home, fully expecting that this was what I would be doing for the rest of my life. However, I quickly discovered that I could recognize when other people had a natural talent or gift for this type of work.
I was surprised that I was able tune into their energy without even trying and just know. What made a deeper impression on me, however, was that these experiences often felt so much more than simple recognition. It was more like the person’s innate ability was presenting itself to me because it wanted me to help awaken it inside.
Before long, people began asking if I would teach them a certain aspect of psychic mediumship, like cards for example. At first, these classes would happen sporadically, upon request, for maybe two hours on a Saturday in the basement of my home. From there, it grew into weekend workshops and then into weekly workshops that would extend for a period of several months.
At the same time, I began teaching at Lily Dale Assembly is a hamlet and community near Buffalo, NY, a well-known spiritualist movement in mediumship circles and those seeking healing round the world. I was honored to have been chosen as a teacher among the thousands who apply each year, which is why I didn’t mind the regular long commutes for days or a week at a time to the Buffalo area. Instead, I embraced the time to brainstorm about teaching. How could I teach more efficiently? What kind of teacher did I want to be? What did I want to teach? What classes and structure would serve my students best?
It was on those rides that I first came up with what eventually bloom into the full Butterfly Series, one of my most popular courses. I also became a Reiki Master and Teacher, and often teach Reiki Level I, II and III Certification courses, as well as the Master - Teacher Series. For people who are serious about entering the trade of Psychic Mediumship, I have one-to-three-year courses available as well. They all require the Butterfly Series first.
For me, teaching is an intuitive experience. No two of my classes are the same because each group I teach is different. While there are certain check points for every class, I mostly go with the vibe of the group. I describe it as being plugged into a station – the group energy station – and it drives the songs that need to be played to best serve that particular class. I can’t plan that; I can only be a channel for it. As a teacher, I keep the needs of my students front and center. How a person experiences psychic mediumship abilities is unique to that individual. I try to help my students become more in tune with how it works inside them.
The first checkpoint of all my classes is to get everyone on the same page, with the same understanding of the four following terms: empath, intuition, psychic and medium. This is important because I find that these terms are often misunderstood, and sometimes even feared, especially the terms ‘psychic’ and ‘medium’. The common misconception about the term psychic is that it’s about predicting the future. Psychic just means soul, and we all have one of those. In its simplest form, it’s two souls connecting.
A common fear about mediumship is that it will intrude on your everyday life; that you’ll be haunted by spirits trying to connect with you. In reality, I do not experience any mediumship connection except for right before a reading or during a reading. Not since that first experience with the soul of Jonathan have I had a spirit contact me in my everyday life. I believe that the only reason Jonathan showed up the way he did, along with the other spirits on that first night I experienced my gift, was because my soul was trying to awaken me to my calling to become a psychic medium.
Even though I didn’t set out to be a teacher, it has become one of his favorite things to do. I received such wonderful training from so many amazing teachers, and I am grateful to pay it forward.
Seeing people open up and believe in themselves – not only for those interested in becoming professional readers, but for all curious and interested; just to trust more and believe in the divine design that runs through us, from us, to us, so that life happens for us; to connect to the light inside that we all have. That is the most rewarding part of being a teacher, There is a real sense of honor, grace and humility that comes along with it, and I love helping others connect, open up, and illuminate from within. It’s really incredible.
My hope for all psychics, energy healers, and psychic mediums is that they keep it real, keep it honest, and keep it humble. It’s not about showing what you can do, it’s about being a conduit for healing in another person’s life by touching the “needs” not just the “wants”. That is both a great honor and a great responsibility. If you can keep that front and center, you’ll always be on the right path.
