Growing up, I had a typical American childhood. Like many boys my age, I enjoyed playing in the neighborhood with friends, engaging in sports, and exploring my creativity through music. However, I had no vivid memories of spirits trying to communicate with me or any extraordinary psychic experiences as a child.
As a highly sensitive child, I was naturally curious about life's deeper meanings. I often asked my mom philosophical questions like, “Where was I before I was born?” In my late teens, when I won a book prize at a restaurant, I chose The Philosophy of Religion, much to my father’s surprise.
My father had a very black-and-white outlook on life and could often be abrasive, making it difficult for a sensitive child like me to thrive. To cope, I found solace in my imagination, whether through playing with action figures, writing, or drawing. In my teenage years, however, I began turning to unhealthy coping mechanisms, such as alcohol and drugs, in an attempt to numb my emotions.
After high school, I wandered aimlessly, trying different paths, including a brief stint at college in New Hampshire and a few cross-country trips to San Diego, California. However, it wasn’t until the tragic events of September 11, 2001, that I felt a sense of purpose. I enlisted in the Army at 25, celebrating my 26th birthday during training. Shortly after, I served in Baghdad, Iraq, and was honorably discharged in 2006.
Upon returning from the war, I found myself falling back into old habits, relying on alcohol and substances to cope with the emotional turmoil inside me. On the surface, I had everything — a successful business and a new marriage — but internally, I felt lost and spiritually bankrupt.
Tragedy struck when my baby daughter was stillborn at eight months. Twenty-five days later, my brother-in-law committed suicide. That same year, I lost my mom to cancer. My marriage didn't survive, but these painful experiences became the catalyst for my transformation.
Encouraged by my sister, I reluctantly visited a psychic she recommended. Initially skeptical, I associated psychics with boardwalk fortune-tellers. However, during the session, I was astounded by how much the psychic knew about my life, including specific details such as co-signing a car lease for an employee, which later defaulted as predicted.
The psychic advised me to meditate, a concept completely foreign to me at the time. I had to Google how to meditate and, with a bit of hesitation, I gave it a try.
During my first meditation, I experienced something beyond my comprehension. I found myself in an incredibly vivid vision, standing by a river that felt as real as the room I was in. Across the river stood an ancient-looking man, radiating wisdom and familiarity.
As he moved closer, I could feel his presence physically, which startled me so much that I gasped and immediately opened my eyes. Laughing nervously, I brushed it off and turned in for the night—only to find myself surrounded by shadowy silhouettes resembling the figures from my vision.
Instead of fear, I felt a profound sense of belonging. I began sketching the figures and found that my thoughts were answered instantaneously, as though I were communicating with them telepathically. This experience marked the true beginning of my journey into psychic mediumship.
That night was a turning point in my life. I realized that my sensitivity and curiosity were not weaknesses but gifts that allowed me to connect with the spirit world. Over time, I embraced my psychic abilities and dedicated myself to helping others through mediumship.
